Background
The Croatian Studies Foundation was established in August 1984
with the aim of supporting the Croatian Studies program at Macquarie
University.
In addition to fundraising activities, the Foundation organises
cultural and scholarly events to promote knowledge and understanding
of the Croatian history, language and culture.
As
the Foundation was established for the charitable purposes of education.,
all donations to the Foundation are tax deductible.
The Croatian Studies Foundation is comprised of a large number
of Croatian organisations, clubs and institutions as well as individual
members right across Australia
Highlights of CSF activities
In 1988 CSF organised an international symposium Croatia and Croatians
in 20th Centurv: Perceptions and Reality as part of the festivities
on the 200th anniversary of Australia's first European settlement
(1 788-1988). More than 30 academics from all over the world came
to hear papers from other fellow scholars on such topics as Croatian
language, literature, history, folklore, sculpture, music and Croatian
immigration experiences. Four of the active participants in this
symposium came from Croatia: Stjepan Seselj, Pero Budak, Ante Starcevic
and Viado Gotovac. Their contribution was electrifying, not only
because they delivered papers and actively contributed in the discussions,
but also because they came directly from Croatia and thus were living
proof that the Croatian diaspora had not cut itself off from its
source.
In October 1993 CSF organised its 2and international conference
Croatia and Croatians: Myths and Reality on the 10th anniversary
of the Croatian Studies Program at Macquarie University. The proceedings
of this conference will be soon published.
CSF has been supporting Croatian Studies Program at Macquarie
from its beginning; it also supports the activities of the Centre
for Croatian Studies and it participates in cultural manifestations
of the Croatian Australian community.
