Degree Information
In Italian you have the option of either completing individual units or taking a major in Italian. You can combine Italian units with virtually any other program of study and/or enrol in a double degree.
You can choose to enrol in a Degree, a Diploma in Languages (Italian), a Certificate in Languages (Italian) or study Italian as a non award student.
Diploma in Languages
This is a three-year part-time program that is equivalent to a major in Italian. It is open to anyone who qualifies for admission to a degree. It can be completed together with a degree or as a stand-alone program. You can transfer from a Diploma to a Degree once you have achieved 9 credit points with a GPA of 2.0.
Certificate in Languages
This is a two-year part-time program, and no admission criteria are specified. It can be completed together with a degree or as a stand-alone program. To transfer from a Certificate to a Diploma in Languages you need to achieve 9 credit points with a GPA of 2.0. You can apply for an internal transfer to a Degree once you achieve a further 9 credit points with a GPA of 2.0
Non-award
Non-award enrolment is aimed at students who do not wish to commit themselves to long periods of study. There are no admission criteria, but prerequisites and study pattern rules still apply.
There are two Study Patterns that lead to a Major in Italian.
-
The Beginners Study Pattern (Code 01007) is for students who either have not studied Italian before or who have some knowledge of Italian but have not completed the HSC in Italian.
- The Post-HSC Study Pattern (Code 01008) is for students who have completed Italian studies at HSC level (extended or continuers band 4, 5 or 6) and for native speakers.
The Study Patterns for the Certificate in Languages and the Diploma follow the same criteria as those for a degree but with different credit point requirements.
