Overseas Study
Students have the opportunity of going to Russia and studying language and culture at either Lomonosov Moscow State University
or St Petersburg State University. Macquarie University presents travel scholarships for students.
Successfully completed study abroad units may be counted towards a Macquarie degree or Diploma.
Macquarie University offers different ways to study Russian in Russia:
- Short Residential Units (a four-week course),
- In-country Units (a one/two-semester course), or
- Exchange Program (a one/two-semester course).
Short Residential Units
Macquarie University offers the following short residential units in Russia during the mid-year break in July:
- RSN140 Beginners Course (3 credit points)
- RSN240 Intermediate Course (3 credit points)
- RSN340 Advanced Course (3 credit points)
These units are four weeks long and they are specifically designed for non-native speakers of Russian.
Students are tested on arrival at the overseas institution and placed in a class at a suitable level. At the end of their stay, students are assessed by the host university. The host university charges a reasonable fee for tuition, accommodation, transportation from the airport to the university, and excursions.
After enrolment in the course, students have to:
- E-mail Dr Kalyuga a scanned copy of the first two pages of their passport (to obtain a letter of invitation for a Russian visa).
- E-mail Dr Kalyuga the following information:
- Their home address and contact phone number in Australia, as well as their e-mail address.
- The name of the university where they want to study in Russia (Lomonosov Moscow State University or St Petersburg State University).
- Dates they need a visa for.
- Submit their travelling scholarship application form online at http://www.international.mq.edu.au/goingabroad.
- Buy a ticket.
- Arrange travel and medical insurance.
All information required for a Russian visa must be supplied to Dr Kalyuga during the first month after enrolment.
In-country Units
Students have the opportunity to enrol for one (or two) full semester(s) of study at either Lomonosov Moscow State University or St Petersburg University. These units are credited (6 credit points each) towards their Macquarie University degree or Diploma in Russian. HECS fees are paid at Macquarie. More information can be obtained from Macquarie International.
Exchange Program
Students can enrol in semester courses offered in any discipline by Lomonosov Moscow State University or St Petersburg University – universities with which Macquarie has exchange agreements.
Students should have a good level of proficiency in Russian. Exchange agreements provide for students to pay HECS fees at Macquarie and be exempted from paying fees in the host university. More information can be obtained from Macquarie International.
