Dr Boris Skvorc

Profile

Boris Skvorc was born in Karlovac, Republic of Croatia, in 1962 and has arrived in Australia in 1988. He is now a Senior Lecturer in Croatian Studies in the Croatian Studies Centre at Macquarie University, where he was first appointed in 1991. He completed his undergraduate tertiary education at the University of Zagreb (Croatia), graduating with honours at the Department of Croatian Studies (kroatistika). He completed his postgraduate studies at Macquarie University in Sydney. His doctorate (PhD) was in the area of theory and history of literature (the title was 'Irony and the Novel: the Case of Miroslav Krle¸a').

At Macquarie University he teaches Croatian advanced language courses as well as Croatian Literature, Drama and Film. His teaching related interests include areas such as Croatian as a foreign language, Croatian literature and film. His major field of teaching interest is Croatian literature of the 20th Century and interaction between cultures and literatures in contact. His current research projects are in the area of Cultural Studies, Multiculturalism, Theory and History of literature and literature in a context of intercultural interactions. Dr. Skvorc is the author of three monographs in the area of literary history, theory and multicultural studies. He is also the editor of two literary anthologies, one of Croatian short stories in English, and the other one of Australian short stories in Croatian. One of his biggest passions is to bring cultures together and stimulate intercultural dialogue and understanding. Dr Skvorc has participated at a number of international conferences, and has written more than 25 refereed publications in numerous internationally renowned journals and conference proceedings dealing with literature, as well as Croatian and Multicultural Studies. He is also editor of two refereed journals in the area of Croatian Studies. He has been a guest lecturer at the University of Zagreb and of the University of Osijek in Croatia.
