CRO350 Advanced Croatian I
Welcome to CRO 350. This is a first semester external unit and all of the material for the course is provided in external mode. The unit will offer the revision of morphology and syntax as well as provide you with more information on Croatian grammar, pronunciation and syntax. Special emphasis is put on writing and comprehension and communicative skills which will prepare you for assignments in advanced comprehension skills, translating and interpreting. The grammar, pronunciation, comprehension and revision part of the unit is based on Vinko Grubišic's book Elementary Croatian II and exercises prepared in the Croatian Studies Centre.
Emphasis is put on the following major issues:
- Revision of cases, tenses and exercises with so-called “difficult situations” organised in the form of comprehension exercises;
- Basic syntax and spoken syntax;
- Usage of newly acquired linguistic skills in unfamiliar situation, that is with unfamiliar topic and unfamiliar set of questions;
- Intercultural communication and communicative skills in usage of Croatian in various situations.
The unit will help students with language proficiency and give them more confidence when using language in new situations.
