RSN105 Russian Society and Culture

This is a general education unit which offers a view of Russian cultural life and the cultural contributions made by Russia to the world. Topics will include literature, theatre and cinema, music, painting and architecture. The contemporary situation in Russia will be presented against the historical background. The course will be conducted in English and no knowledge of Russian is required. It will be based on a lecture-discussion format with extensive use of audio-visual materials, including recordings and films. RSN105 is offered in internal and external modes. Two-hour classes are offered for internal students per week. External students will receive printed materials and CDs with recorded lectures.
